UPLOADING IMAGES TO THE SITE
Images can be uploaded directly to the site using the ‘Upload link’. Select upload and drop your high res jpeg images together with your PDF model/property releases into the window.
This method is the quickest way of uploading images.
You can also use our Cortex Uploader application.
What’s the benefit of using the uploader app?
You can upload multiple folders, each holding images and model/property releases. Our system will maintain the folder structure. ( i.e keep the shoots together).
THE SUBMISSION PROCESS EXPLAINED
Once uploaded, your images go into a queue, ready to be reviewed. They enter phase one which we call Pre-Triage. Our review team will carefully review all pending images, tagging those we feel should be approved/rejected, once finished, these are then reviewed by a second team, who will then make further adjustments to the selection. They then enter final Triage stage, all selections are triple checked. The final approved sets are then sent for keywording.
Once they are sent to the keyworders, their status changes from To be decided to Being Keyworded. Keywording can take up to 2 weeks, depending on a number of factors. In the meantime, you can apply specific keywords such as locations to your approved images using the Quick-Edit link.
What do we look for and why are some images rejected?
As a contributor you have been accepted because your work is of an extremely high standard. On average, each image submitted costs us around $0.60 to prepare and keyword. We are investing in your work, something we don’t take lightly.
We don’t ‘pad out’ our collection with substandard work and we know that you don’t want your images sitting beside inferior quality work, so our review process is tough…only the best will do.
When reviewing images, we dissect them completely… crops, angles, lighting, models poses, expressions, suitability to a particular industry, attention to detail….we look at everything. Unlike social media where everyone ‘loves’ everyone’s work, we tell it as it is. You may not always like it or agree with our selection but guaranteed, it will make you a better photographer.
Submissions: Do’s and Don’ts
Share the same shoot between libraries.
Submit previously rejected images.
Upload duplicate images.
Upload images with your signature or watermark on them.
Upload too many variations of the same/or overly similar images.
Let other libraries cherry pick your best work and send us the remaining.
Overuse the same models and locations. As it will reach a point we will have to reject good images due to repetition.
Things you DEFINITELY should do:
Only submit your best work.
Push your creative boundaries, don’t stay in your ‘safe zone’.
Study how Images are being used commercially, visit book stores, browse Amazon book genres…
Ensure your work is fully model released and property released.
Model releases should also include a ‘sensitive issues’ clause.
Upload PDFs of releases together with your images.
All Images should be a minimum size of 4800 pixels (longest side) and Jpeg.
Model releases should be PDF. We cannot accept Jpeg model releases.
DUE TO CHANGES IN THE MARKET WE NO LONGER ACCEPT FOOTAGE CLIPS.
